Welcome!
We,
the citizens of Asante, in the metro Columbus, believing in the
need to help each other, and realizing the value of the strength
and advantages derived from coming together, hereby resolve that
an association be formed to serve this purpose. Hence, our motto:
“Unity is our strength”.
The
idea of unifying all Ashantis in the metro area was initiated by
a very few within our greater community. In the pre-dawn hours of
January 2004, Mr. Yaw Obeng, Mrs. Akua Adusei-Hawkins, Mr. Alex
Asamoah (a.k.a. Big Alex) and Mr. Azziz Annor (a.k.a. Nana Yaw Duah
conceived the idea of bringing all Ashantis together. For many months
following January 2004, these individuals put their heads and resources
together to bring about The Great Asanteman Kuo of Columbus.
The
organization initiated constructive activities in areas such as
life insurance, immigration, investments, business, health and education,
developing cooperative relationship with institutions, groups and
individuals to enable it to provide sources of professional expertise
to members if possible. The organization has therefore become a
major source of refuge for members and non-members alike.
Our
strong relationship with the Ghanaian community has given us a greater
leverage in the areas of support. Many people use Asanteman Kuo
as a one-stop resource center. We have helped many people within
the community acquire employment and sought benefits such as child
care, transportation and many more… As our membership continues
to grow, we hope that our resources can reach many more people in
the community and beyond.
Even
with our meager resources, we have been able to donate Three Thousand
Dollars ($3000.00) to Okomfo Anokye Teaching Hospital for a project
(water reservoir) that will promote patient care and sanitation.
Our yearly dinner party brings the entire Ghanaian community together
for a festive night. Our collaboration with our sister Ghanaian
organizations has resulted in “All Ghanaian Associations’
Yearly Picnic”, which brings all Ghanaians together for fun
activities (i.e. soccer, volley ball, table tennis, music and special
entertainment).
Est.
January 2004.
